Spiti didn’t make into the headlines these past months because of the floods in Ladakh, nonetheless the people of the Spiti Valley have suffered just as badly. Peas are the one cash crop farmed in the area, which was ruined by rain. What was harvested rotted in trucks unable to make the route to Delhi – roads were blocked by landslides and flooding.
The Spiti people are in for a tough winter with very little money to buy food or fuel!
You can help – support Spiti Projects who are hosting a talk by Dan Cruickshank at the RGS on Nov 2nd at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at 020 8901 4737. For more information www.spiti.org
I look forward to seeing you there!
