New Style Spiti Jumper - Knitting Pattern
SPITI SWEATER
To fit chest 24, (26, 28, 30, 32.) inches
61(66, 71, 76, 81.) cms
Length from top of shoulder
16, (17, 19, 21, 23.) inches
41, (43, 48, 53, 57.) cms
Double knitting wool x 50 gram balls
6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Knitting needles 1 pair each No’s 3¼ mm (10) and 4mm (8)
Back and front are alike.
With No 3¼mm (10) needles cast on 66, (70, 76, 80, 86.) stitches; work 18 rows in k2, p2, rib.
Change to No 4mm (8) needles and continue in stocking stitch (1 row plain 1 row purl) until work measures 12,( 13, 15, 16, 18, ) inches, end with R side facing for next row.
Cast on 38, (40, 46, 48, 52,) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows 142, (150, 168, 176, 190.) stitches.
Continue in stocking stitch until work measures, 17½, 18½, 20½, 21½, 23½.) inches.
Cast off 48,(50, 56, 58, 62,) stitches, then knit in k2, p2, rib, 46,(50, 56, 60, 66,) stitches. Cast off. Then knit the remaining stitches in rib for 5 to 6 ins. Then cast off.
Making up
Press the garments, sew up the shoulder seams.
Cuffs, pick up 30-40 stitches from the cuff edge with 4mm. (8) needles and knit in k2, p2, rib for 24 rows, or2-3 ins. Cast off, and repeat on the other side. Sew up both side seams. NOTE. Larger sizes are much more popular

Apart from the obvious stripes of the Tibetan colours, this pattern is very versatile in colours, stripes, stitches, and variety of wool, and needle size, adapting where necessary. Once you have made one sweater you can adapt the pattern to make your own unique creation.
